    What was the goal of this munition? only subcaliber?

    Interestingly the tracer rounds with HE projectile are not classified as subcaliber rounds. But the use is still a mystery to me.
    Given this your's here (no tracer) was most likely a subcaliber load.

    The projectile was red and had a black band below the fuze.
    The proj. base below the driving band was coated with black tar laquer.

    I would leave the proj. just like it is. Any new paint will just let it look artificial...
