I believe I have a Mark VII projectile (WW I era) but I'm not sure. Can anybody assist with the identification? It had a No. 100 II-B fuze.

Are there any markings present? In particular punch marks?
Also the fuze data would be good to know.

It appears the MK VII had a different driving band.
Here some sheets I have on the 6-inch:

I believe I've found the shell. I had originally misidentified it as a possible MK VII. I believe the shell is a 6 inch Shrapnel Mark IX. The driving bands match perfectly, the screws in the body, and the break between the main body and fuze. I was a little perplexed on the fuze but found information that in WWI the graze fuze (No. 100 series) was used on Shrapnel rounds. This round had the No. 100 IIB fuze.
What would be the point to use a graze (impact) fuze on a shrapnel?

Indeed an odd thought.
There were no more markings on your projectile than those you listed?

Hello,
Markings of designation are usually on the base (6IN MK..)
You're shell is not a shrapnel shell. Shrapnel shells have thin walls and twisting pins on top. Head is not screwed on body.
This shell is definitly a HE shell. HE shells were made in one piece or with head screwed.
"X", you show early common lyddite shells with fuze with GS thread (and not 2in hole). You can find same Mk on different 6in shells, Lyddite or HE, and depends on guns used.
Lot of Mk were made, exceed MkXX.
Could you give length without fuze ?
Regards
